Our History

We Grow Together

Our story begins in 1954. Ten hard-working pineapple farmers pooled their resources and did something none of them could have done alone: collected $595 and bought a piece of cutting-edge 1950’s technology. A tractor.

They believed that together they could provide a better life for their families, for their community, and for Kaua‘i. They gathered. And they grew.

The same resourcefulness and ingenuity continues to make Gather strong today. We’re here to bring the latest financial technology to Kaua‘i. We’re here to share resources and tools, to help you reach your goals, big and small.

Today, Gather Federal Credit Union provides financial products and services to more than 35,400 members in Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau. With assets of over $521 million and combined membership savings exceeding $463 million, Gather FCU is the largest neighbor-island credit union in the state of Hawaii.
Ownership is what distinguishes Gather FCU from other financial institutions. Members put their money in a variety of savings accounts, and that money, in turn, is lent to other members. After operating expenses and reserve requirements are met, loan income is returned to all members in the form of dividends and comprehensive financial services.

Gather is governed by a Board of Directors that establishes and reviews policy. The Directors are credit union volunteers who are elected by the membership and serve without pay.

Every member has one vote, regardless of how much he or she has on deposit. At the credit union, there is no select group of shareholders that profits more than anyone else. All members profit— individually and collectively.

Gather FCU is federally-chartered and is organized under strict regulatory laws that are monitored and enforced by the National Credit Union Administration, an agency of the U.S. Government. The NCUA insures each member savings for up to $250,000 and member IRAs up to an additional $250,000.

We love our island, and we love to help. That’s why we’re relentless in searching for new “firsts” to benefit our members.
